From a blocked WordPress install full of someone else's demo data to a booking platform of their own.
- The situation
- The existing website was in a critical state: no visibility in search engines, no bookings, a generic real-estate theme complete with demo data from the American market that had never been removed. The booking plugin and the page builder blocked an upgrade to a current PHP version. Fonts were loaded from outside, the consent solution did not work. The website was doing the business more harm than good.
- Approach
- A complete rebuild as a bespoke application in PHP 8.3 with PDO and MySQL, no framework, no build tooling, no plugin dependencies. Deliberately lean: every file with a clear purpose, no abstraction layer nobody needs.
- What we did
- Booking systemDay-accurate pricing with seasonal rates, early-bird and long-stay discounts, a service fee and a minimum rental period. Calendar with blocked days and live price lookup.
- Three vehicle categoriesRental, sale and special vehicles, each with its own path in the front end and its own administration.
- Admin areaVehicle upkeep with image upload, duplication and seasonal pricing; booking administration with status changes, manual entry and legal texts.
- Data protection from the ground upConsent by category, Google Consent Mode v2, self-hosted fonts, newsletter with double opt-in.
- Result
- A website that prevented bookings has become the platform the business runs on. Without plugins there is no dependency on other people's release cycles and no reason to stay on an outdated PHP version.
